- In this district most of the people have churns. We have a churn at home. It is a dash churn. It is about two feet wide at the top and bottom. The sides of it are round. The various parts of it are the lid, the dash and the bowl that goes down on the lid. Butter is made twice every week in summer, but it is only made once in the winter. My mother generally does the churning, but sometimes my sister does it. Sometimes people who come in help to do the churning.
In summer the churning does not take as long as in the winter.
It is generally done by the hand, by moving the dash upwards and downwards. When the dash becomes clean the people know that the butter(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
