- Within the yard of Rathmacnee castle a crock of gold is said to be hidden.No one knows where the exact spot is.Many stories connected with it are circulated in the district. Only one of them contains a statement about an attempt to unearth it.The story says that in Tagmon a man from Rathmacnee met a New Ross man.After talking for some time the man from New Ross inquired what sort of a place Rathmacnee was.On being told of the castle, Mill, and church he said, "For three nights in succession I dreamt of that place, and of a vast treasure hidden in the castle yard.". "Let us go and dig for it".That night armed with shovels and a lantern they crept into the castle yard and commenced to dig.
