- About one acre and half of potatoes are sown on our farm each year. The manure is put out in the drills before the potatoes are sown. About fifty years ago wooden ploughs were used, but they are not in use nowadays. In Summer the potatoes are earthed to destroy the weeds. In the months of June and July they are sprayed with a solution of washing-soda, and blue-stone, a couple of times to prevent the blight from coming on them.

- The supply of potatoes for Winter use are grown on the farm every year. About 2 1/2 acres of land is sown under potatoes each year. The ground is sometimes manured before it is turned up and other times when it is turned up. The potatoes are usually sown in drills. The plough is used for making drills in fields but a spade is used in plots. The potatoes are prepared for sowing in the following way. The number of medium sized potatoes required are stored in boxes until the time for sowing them. In June some people spray their potatoes to prevent them from getting blighted. a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
