  1. Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the penitential season of Lent, in preparation for the great feast of Easter, which is regarded as one of the greatest fes feast of the year by the church. On ash Wednesday the people go to the Church, and the blessed ashes is placed on the foreheads of the people by the Priest.
The ashes are given to the people to remind them that they are but dust and ashes. The day before is called Shrove Tuesday and the people make pan-cakes on that day.
