The seventeenth of March is the feast-day of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. On that day every Irish - person wears the shamrock, the symbol of their faith.
This custom originated from the time of Saint Patrick, when he explained the mystery of the Trinity in the following manner.While trying to convert the pagans he was at a loss to explain the mystery of the Trinity.
Looking at the ground he chanced to see the shamrock which immediatly solved his difficulties.
Since then every Irish catholic wears a spray of shamrock in memory of that eventful day.
