- Long ago there lived two giants one lived in Gallid and the other lived in Clough, Granard, Co. Longford.
They were always quarrelling and they never agreed. One day in the month of June in the year thirteen forty two they agreed to have a challenge.
One night while the giant in Gallid was asleep in bed the Clough giant came and dug a large pit in the place where they were going to have the contest.
The next morning he came again and gave a mighty roar and shouted for the giant to come out and have a battle with him.
The giant which lived in Gallid got angry and rushed out fully intended to kill the other giant.
When he came almost as far as the other giant he fell down in the pit which the Clough giant had dug and broke one of his arms.
The other giant tore up the large rocks out of the spoil with his hands and these he hurled into the pit until(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
