  1. The time of the Land League in Ireland there were very hard Land-Lords in South Westmeath.
    One Lady was particularly hard and cruel. All the Poor people dreaded her. A few families were unable to pay the rent and she had it planned to evict them.
    This day she was out in the hay-field watching them making the hay. She thought they would idle if she did not watch them. One of the men she was going to evict planned with his companions that he would dress in her maid's clothes and go up to her in the hay-field and shoot her.
    He did so, and he passed the men making the hay and they thought he was a maid from her house. When she turned round she knew he was not her maid and that he meant to
