    bucket and take the bottom out of it. Then they put the bucket down on the hole so as to draw up the smoke.
    The old houses had no glass in the windows but they had iron bars and shutters to close over at night. The windows were not nearly as big as they are now. The foors were made of yellow clay. Half-doors are not as common now as they were in former times. Turf and wood were used for fire and rush-candles were used to give them light. These candles were home-made.
