- The mains roads are the roads that bring you into important towns. The bye roads are the roads which branch on to the main roads. Mains roads are usually tarred and wide and uninteresting with long stretches on them.
The bye-roads are the best for a ramble. They wind about and twist and turn. One bye-road near our house is called the lake road, it goes down hill from Mountnugent. It is a rough, gravelled, bumpy road. You can see Lough Sheelin through the trees. The Ross leads to the stone quarries in Ross. Killbride road brings you out at Ballyjamesduff.- Bailitheoir
