A gold coffin, in which is enclosed Queen Meave and precious jewellery is said to be buried in the Loughcrew hills.
The hills are situated three miles south of Oldcastle.
Once a man wanted to get the coffin.
So he started to dig inside one of the caves on the hill, thinking every moment he would see the coffin. He kept on digging and digging. Still no coffin was found. After a long time he saw the glittering coffin in the clay, each time he was about to lay hands on it, to his surprise, the coffin would disappear under the clay ; he would dig for it again and the same thing would happen ; this carried on for some time and the man gave up hope at last. He was tired, frightened and hungry. He was very glad when he was out in the fresh air again.
He said he would never look for hidden treasure again.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
