    not much sign of snow except two days previously the wind blew from the east and was very cold and dark. Sheep and cattle gathered together into one sheltered corner of the field.
    There was a lot of harm done by it. Cattle and sheep were lost and many people lost their way in the snow and got smothered. The children were unable to go to school. Roads and railways were blocked and trains were not able to run. On the following Sunday people had to cross hedges and ditches on their way to Mass. Food soon got scarce and they people were afraid they would be left hungry, but to their surprise and delight an aeroplane circled over Kilmessan dropped a large basket of bread.
    As John Fynes of Bective was coming home from Kilmessan on the 25th he got lost in a large drift. His head was the only
