Where Mrs Commons lives at present people named Marmion had a shop there long ago. It was a public house and grocery. Mrs Commons got her house built around the old one.
Where Mr Parkes is living now Mrs Coady and her three sons lived there. Her eldest son won a lot of money on an English racehorse called Wingfield. Then she built the hotel with the money and called it "Wingfield Hotel."
After her death her son sold the hotel to Mr Parkes who lives in it at present.
