- There are a number of forts in this district. They are sometimes called a ring but they are nearly always called forts. There is a fort in each of the following town- lands. Farn Carrowclogher Ballyhammon, Caggle, Lissafobble, Clooneragh, Newtown and Castlenode. Some of them are within view of one another
They are all round in shape. There is a fence of earth and stones and trees around each. In some of them there is an entrance-hole in the side. In the rest there is an entrance hole in the center. Long ago when people used to pick scutch out of crops they used to throw the scutch into the forts that is why they are not so deep now
