  1. Kieran the Elder or as sometimes called Saint Kieran of Seir (Saigir) came to Ireland from Rome. When he was coming he was given a bell by Saint Patrick who told him to build his church where-ever the bell would ring.
    One night while Saint Kieran was asleep in Collishill, which is about three miles from Roscrea, he had a vision. In this vision he saw a lady looking through a veil and the lady told him to go to Clareen which is about seven miles from Roscrea. When Saint Kieran awoke his boots were gone so he cursed Collishill, and said that it would never be without a rogue, a thief or a liar. When people are finding fault with a person from Collishill now they often say "oh! don't mind him, sure his ancestors stole St Kieran's boots."
    Saint Kieran went to Clareen as he was ordered. As he was going up a hill, which is now called Bell Hill, the bell which Saint Patrick gave him rang. Kieran knew then that he was to build his church and he built it at the butt of Bell Hill. Bell Hill is in Clareen. Near the church is St Kieran's well, to which people go on a pilgrimage every year on the 5th of March. In the middle of the road near the well is Saint Kieran's bush. It is said that if you pass up or down the road in a motor-car or on a bicycle and that you go on your side of the road when passing the bush you will get a puncture. If you
