- Among the many old ruins around Lorrha one of the largest is the Church of the Canons Regular. The ruin is in the village; it stands on the side of the road and is covered with ivy and its beauty adds greatly to the pictureque appearnance of the village.
The Monastery of the Canons Regular was founded in the second quarter of the twelth century. The Canons Regular was a newly arrived Order of St. Agustine and this Monastery was founded for them by the O'Kennedy the Milesian Lords of Ormon. This prior flourished until the dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII.
