    call the laburnum; many people hereabout persist in still calling it the "drooping willow."

    Plabairis = a "softy" (Westmeath)

    Dallachánaidhe
    in the abusive phrase "you yallow Dallachánaidhe". I think it is used where for abusive purposes the word 'mulatto' would be used in English. I cannot recall it in connection with the idea of Daille. (Tiob. Ár.)

    Cis
    a basket-cart; or perhaps to be more exact, a basket, car-size, laid on a dray. They were not uncommon in my district when I was a boy. (Tiob. Ár.) "A Cis of brogues" used be a common phrase but I cannot recall the association.

    Further to note on Dia linn etc. on page 142.
    Maurice Devaney says " If a child sneezed once HE would say Dia linn, if he sneezed secondly or maybe twice rapidly after that, HE would say Dia linn agus Muire Mháthair and if the child then continued to sneeze HE would say Dia linn agus Muirbh n Tighearna. The HE is his father. Mr Devaney is a sort of sub-agent for the collection of all varieties of folklore and has brought enthusiasm, intelligence and sympathy into his work.

    Gág
    an open sore, the wound resulting from burst or broken chill-blains, the dried split-open condition of very "chapped" skin, any open small wound or the hand or foot, a "sand-crack" in horses. (Tiob. Ár.)
    Tras-scríofa ag duine dár meitheal tras-scríbhneoirí deonacha.
