    Dysert Aongas (Contd/)
Mr. Ed. OConnell, Carrigeen, Croom, Blacksmith, aged 62 years, tells me that he does not believe that Christy roofed his drains with the flag-stones or headstones. He worked at Christy's more than 40 years ago and assisted in levelling the grave mounds. He remembers finding in one a hairpin which was as coarse-ly made almost as a staple. He saw a cof-fin uncovered when the drive-way was being made to the present residence near the Dysert. There was black "canvas" round the coffin and it was in a wonderful state of preser-vation but the coffin was badly gone and the contents had completely disintegrated

hour. The place is still known as Carbery's Stump and 'tis beside the church (ruin of Caherass) There was grand carving in the church. There was a song made about it - the incident not the church and it begins this way:-
In the courts of Caherass, there lived a fair lady,
A pearl of beauty and a jewel named Katie
(Ni fhéadas an cuid eile d'en amhrán a bhailiú uaithi. bhí sé caillte aicí.)
