- Rathcahill is said to have got it's name from the old fort in Eugene King's land, "The fort of Charles". It is an unusually large fort. The "Charles" is said to have been "Bonny Prince Charlie". The townland of Rathcahill is about the largest townland in the parish of Monagea. Long ago it was called Rathcahill parish. There are twenty houses in Rathcahill and the majority of the houses are thatched. There are about eight people over seventy years in Rathcahill. Most of the people in Rathcahill are farmers.
