- In ancient times the cure for a sore throat was the following.
The person who had a sore throat, got a thick slice of very fat bacon this bacon was usually two months taken out of the barrel, and it was spread on a piece of paper and taken to the fire and smoked. This was put to the throat and kept there for a quarter of an hour.Old Cures.
An other cure for a sore was to get a large bag of salt, and put it on a flat vessel. This was roasted before the fire, and when it was well heated it was put into a cloth, and made in the form of a scarf, then it was doubled around the throat and kept there for a certain time.- Collector
