The Ballyhea team wore white ganseys with black bands and white shorts. Churchtown wore green ganseys with gold bands and white shorts but most of the players at that time wore no sports or shoes.
The ball was made of thread tightly wound and covered with leather. It was about twelve ounces in weight and four inches in diameter. The goal post and cross bar were used and also the space at each side where points could be scored.
III A ball flying high over the space in charge of the goalkeeper that is sixty feet high altogether counted a point. As far as the oldest people can remember hurling was played in this district and all the neighbouring parishes had teams as well but football never had a grip here. The great players of that time were Murphy, Mooney, the Flahertys and Foley.
