- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)in the Barony of Duhallow, Kanturk, County cork, there are many birds. The most common ones are the crows, blackbirds, pigeons, wrens, and starlings. The swallow is one of the many birds that migrate.
When the hatchling season is over, and when the young birds are able to fly, they go away to some other land.
The robin builds its nest in a hole in the wall, and lays from five to six eggs. The eggs are of a brown colour. The nest is made of moss, and is nicely lined with hair.
Boys are told, that if they robbed a nest, that sores would come on their hands, and that they would be cursed by the birds. It is said, that when the swallow flies low, it is the sign of rain, and when the seagull flies inland, that a storm is coming.
When Our Lord was dying on the Cross, and when the robin was trying to pull the thorns from His Head it is said, that a drop of Our Saviour's Blood fell on the breast of the robin.
