- Long ago the people used to get married very young. It was on Shrove Tuesday they usually got married. When the bride and bridegroom used to be leaving the house to get married shoes used to be thrown after them for luck, and when they used to be coming out of the Church after getting married rice used to be thrown at them for luck. Mondays and Fridays are supposed to be the unlucky days for marriage, and May and October are supposed to be the unlucky months. About thirty years ago marriages used to take place in the houses. This custom is now discontinued.
