  1. About fifty years ago mostly all the houses were thatched. The thatch used was reed or rushes. The houses were only one storey high but only in few places was there a bed in the kitchen. In some places there was a room back of the fireplace in which a bed or two were kept. The fireplace was usually at the gable-wall. Only very rarely was there a bed over the kitchen as there was no window or any means of leaving in air or light.
