- In years gone by people went bare-foot all the year round. The older people wore clogs and shoe-maker shoes. Clogs were sold in the local shops formerly, but now they are not stocked in most shops. A woman, who sold clogs in former times, and who got great demand for them, is still continuing the business. A song was therefore composed referring to this woman."Ye lads and gas lasses, old men and old women.

- A pair of boots would serve people for the most of their lives, because the only time they wore them was going to Mass. A story is told about a man, who was coming to Mass barefooted, and he had his boots under his arms. And when he was going into Mass, he put on his boots, and he fell inside the door, because he was not accustomed to(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
