    constantly barefooted. There are four shoemakers in my district, the Moynihan brothers, Jack and Dan, Batt Healy and Thady Foley.
    Jack Moynihan lives in Barracharing, Donoughmore, County Cork. Dan Moynihan lives in Ballycunningham, Donoughmore and Batt Healy and Thady Foley both live in Laughabawn, Donoughmore, County Cork. These people make and mend shoes for people of the District. Leather is not tanned in my district now. The nearest tannery to my district was in Macroom. Tanning is not carried on there now, as the tannery was closed down about fifty years ago.

  2. Boots and shoes became common in the eighteenth century. Richard Barry who lived in Kilnamartyre, County Cork, never wore boots or shoes. Children go barefoot in Summer. The water for wishing the feet is left inside till the following day. Boots are made in this district. There is but one shoemaker in the district. His father was a shoemaker also. Clogs are not made in this district but they are made in Kanturk. Clogs are worn in this district.
