- Rev. William Bell was rector of Kilmeen in 1902. One Saturday night he was burned alive in a hay shed in his own yard. Whether it was an accident or not was never known. It was supposed that he was around the yard and he had a lantern in his hand, and it was supposed that the lantern fell and the hay caught fire and he was burned.
A man named Moore was in his employment at that time and he was suspected of having murdered him, because the head was never found in the burned shed. The police searched in every place but it was never found. Moore got a long term of imprisonment.- Bailitheoir
