   Many people can tell when wet weather is coming. Red clouds in the west at sunset mean fine weather but a coppery or yellow sunset generally foretells rain. An almost certain sign of rain is a "halo" around the moon.
   Birds often foretells rain. When swallows fly low and near to the ground rain is surely near. When seagulls gather on the land, stormy, rainy weather is near.
   When a dog is seen to eat grass or a cat to sit by the fire, cold and wet weather may be expected. If wet weather is near, the sky is dreary, and black clouds gather.
   When smoke goes straight up from the chimney it is a good sign of the weather, but when the smoke curls at the chimney-tops it is a sign of rain.
