1. Local Place Names

   

   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   Our farm is situated in the townlands of Drumavaddy, and Drumferrif. Drumavaddy means "The Dogs Back" , because there is some of it hilly.

   The names of the fields are
   " The Hill", because it is high up,
   "The Meadow", because it is low down and boggy and there are rushes growing in it.
   "The Haggard", because the people keep their straw and hay in it,
   "The Garden", because the vegetables and flowers grow in it.
   "The Well Field", because there is a spring well in it.
   "The Old House Field , because in olden times there was an old house in it.

   " Scoileach ", because there was a hedge school in it in the penal times.

   
   The names of the fields in Drumherrif are,
   "The Road", because there is rood of ground in it,
   "The Office", because there must have been an office in it long ago.

   "Parknaluckra", or the field of the rushes, and on top of one of the hills there is a place called called the "Anvil", because the fairies had a forge there, and they would be working there every night and you hear the noise of the anvil.

   There is a field called the " Bush Field ", because there is a " Lone Bush ", growing in it and one time there was a
