    each person takes a still burning piece of wood and enters every field on his farm. This is supposed to bless the crops and produce of the land.
    (3) On the first day of May there are many local customs, though I am afraid many of them are dying out. One of these customs is to clean the Spring well on May eve. Whoever succeeds in getting the first pitcher of water out of it on May morning has got the luck of the owner of the well for twelve months. Another custom is to gather the May flowers and strew them around the farmyard. A whin (furze) bush is cut and set in the "carn aolaigh" and covered over with may flowers.
    (4) All the old folk of the neighbourhood have sayings of their own. Many of these are supposed to be blessings. On entering a house you will hear them say, "God save all in here" and the "fear a'tighe" makes the answer "God save you kindly". You are supposed to
