  1. James Meaney of Lanaght was able to lift a dead horse by himself or draw him along the ground.
    There was a great tug-o'-war team in the Rower about fifty years ago. They won the all Ireland Championship a few times. They pulled seveal times in Dublin. The men that were in the team wer - Two Lyngs of Mangan and one Lyng of Ballynunry; three Penders of Mangan; two Meaneys of Lanaght; Stuart of the Ferry; and Stepenson of Ringwood. The weight of the team was very near a ton.
    Stuart weighed just twenty-stone. He, being the heaviest man on the team, was on the loop.
    Great Swimmers
    Patsy Dooley of Lanaght swan from New Ross to Innistioge, a distance of about ten miles. He dived from the top of the Ferry-bridge and saved a man's life. Tom Mulrooney of Lanaght also swam from New Ross to Innistioge, in four and a half hours.
    Great Oarsmen
    Jack and Mick Barron, Lower Carrenroe, were great oarsmen, and they won several races.
    Patsy Dooley of Lanaght rode High Hill in New Ross, on a bycycle, for a bet. This hill is closed to traffic it is so steep.
