    When the straw or rushes were on, the thatcher raked down the roof to gather any stray staws. Then he used a clipper to cut the edges of the straw, at the eaves, to make the roof neat-looking. Thatch kept houses very warm in Winter, and nice and cool in Summer.
    It is not used very much in our district now, as most of the houses are slated. However, some people use rushes to roof outhouses.

  2. The most harmful weeds of all are prasic, nettles, dog root, and chicken weed. Prasic spreads rapidly over land.
    Prasic, nettles, and dog roots, make soil very poor. Wherever prasic and nettles are found the soil is very rich there. Wherever chicken weed and rushes are found the soil is very poor. Nettles are used to
