- In olden times there were only a few country shops and the people had to go to the nearest town for goods.
Buying and selling was not carried on after Mass.
Money was not always given for goods, labour was given instead.
Scrap and tick were common words in buying and selling.
Markets were held in Ballymote, Tubbercurry, and Sligo.
There were Pedlars, Huxters and Ragmen.
Pedlars are men going around from place to place selling clothes.
Huxters are people going about buying fowl.
Rag men are people going about gathering rags clothes, and feathers.
