(Philomena Bradley who is living in Mullawn got this story from James Armstrong who is a farmer in Dereens about sixty years of age.)
In Masshill there is a rock under which there is a basin of gold. This gold is minded by a serpent. It is possible to stir this huge rock with one finger because the serpent is constantly going round under it. Once every seven years he comes out and it is said if anyone was passing by at that time who would rush in, seige the spear which lies close by and kill the serpent they would get the gold.
