- There was a period of drought in Ireland in the year 1864. All village wells were dried up and the bogs that were flooded all during the year, that never dried any other summer were as dry as the good land, and people had to travel miles for water. There was not a drier summer since then. There was a great drought in this village in 1901. All the hay was destroyed on the farmers and the potatoes grew secondly. The turf the farmers cut was split with the heat and there was not a well in the country but was dry and five people died from drinking bad water.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
