- The following are names of farm animals: the cows, the horse, the ass, the sheep, the pigs, the dog, the calves, the cat and the goat. The cows are kept in the byre. A cow with no horns is colled a "polly" or "maoileen". The way to stop a cow is to say "priggy."
The ass is not put into any stable. The ass's customary work is to draw home turf. People stop the ass by saying woa" or "pree." They make him go on by making a noise with their tongue.
The sheep stay on the mountain all the year. Once a year they are taken down to be shorn and dipped. People have a mark on their sheep to know them.
