- On our farm we have got three horses, three cows, four calves, ten sheep and one goat and forty-five hens.
One of the cows is called Polly because she has no horns. The other is called Spot because she has white spots. In this district, the cowhouse is called a byre.
There are no stories about eggs hatching, but there is a story about the cows. When a cow has calved, and is being milked for the first time after she has calved there is always half-a-crown put in the bottom of the bucket. This is supposed to bring good luck.Jack Dinsmore 3rd May 1938
