- Long ago shops were not as plentiful as they are nowadays. There were no shops in the country at all and the people had to travel five or six miles to the nearest town or village for any message they wanted. There were Huxters travelling through the country selling pins, needles and groceries. There was a man named Paddy Burns who used to travel around in a cart selling groceries. He used to sell a paper called "The Freeman's Journal". He used have only one paper and he used to leave it in a certain house for one night and bring it to another house the next night.
