    Thatching with tow actually required much more skill. The dwelling house that got a coat of about 9" to 12" defied the weather for at least 20 to 30 years, and besides had the dual quality of resisting either heat or cold and it also looked smart and tidy.
    Ned Boylan Latully who died about the year 1930 was said to be the best thatcher in this district and was generally believed to be a handy man.

  2. Pat Connolly of Curraghgarry could make rod baskets and he made his living by it. He would take them to the town and sell them at four shillings for a big basket and two shillings for a small one.
    He cut a load of thin straight sallies and peeled them. Then he left them in a dry place
