  1. Candles were made at Kilcoran, near Ballylooby long ago. The people used to kill kids and make candles from the tallow got from the kids. They say that this was often the cause of great harm because cats loved eating tallow and they used steal the candles to the hay-shed and the lighted candle often set the hay on fire.
    The whips the people used long ago were made of rushes. The old women made the whips for the men. My grandmother was always making whips for the people around. She used get six rushes, and plait the rushes into a whip. Then she used get a stick and put a hole through it and (put a) attach the whip to the stick. For every whip she made she charged 1/2d.
