fell at their feet. The Bailiff was very angry and he went around the ditches to see could he see anyone and as he looked around the fallen tree he could hear the noise of the cross-cutting at the other end of the row which was about thirty perches away. He went as quickly as he could tot he other end and just as he arrived there the tree fell but no-one could be seen. ''Well Phil,'' said the Bailiff, ''I will put them out of this field.'' ''How are you going to do it?"
asked Phil. ''If they were as smart move,'' said the Bailiff,
''I will get up to them, so come on.''
They went a little further on and the Bailiff fired a shot and as he did, all the trees that remained standing were knocked to the ground with a great roar and Phil and the Bailiff fled for their lives.
Needless to say there were no prosecutions and the stone referred to in the story can still be seen at the present day.
