- The people of the district when they get drunk, which is seldom, thank God, boast of the great men they are and the great men the district produces in the past.
Jerry Dolan of Castlerahan which is adjacent to Barconey is a great foot-baller and one of our Country's best men. For the past three or four years he has done a mans part to raise our Country team to be amongst the foremost in the land.
Only a fortnight ago the remains of James Griffin, famous in East Cavan and North Meath as a weight carrier, were laid to rest. God rest his soul.
No man entering Old Castle Market could carry such a weight as he. He seemed to walk at his ease beneath a sack of over twenty stones of oats.
The old people of the locality say that the best weight-thrower they know who James Tormey, Ballyaneagh, about a mile from Virginia. He was tall and slender and light of(continues on next page)
