    The Bean Sighe is no stranger to the people of Ballycanew.

    her mournful cry and continued it away along the lane, across the river and up the bank at the far side towards a lonely house where a man was lying ill at the time. From the fear that stole over them they concluded it was something unnatural and one of his companions recalling that he had heard she followed the family of the sick predicted his death in the very near future. The man died early next morning. Then it transpired that many had heard her and a few others had seen her.
    Another member of the same family and the last died about four or five years ago and a number of people are quite emphatic in stating that they heard her.
    She was also heard in the street in Ballycanew about seven years ago. Miss May Breen of 12 Macken Street, Wexford slept in my house that night and next
