    sent them on through Kilmore, to intercept a band of English soldiers under a leader by the name of McKay.
    These soldiers were really a band of Kilkenny miners. seeking Fr. Murphy to get the reward that was offered for him. O'Neill's band attacked them and killed them all... that's what O'Neill thought.
    One of the miners - Silas Larkin let-on to be dead, by laying down under a pile of dead bodies. When the pike men had gone, Larkin came out of his hiding - place, picked up his gun and went after O'Neill tracking him skillfully.
    O'Neill's men made camp under a hill, and the night that was coming-on, soon saw them asleep.
