  1. There lived a man long ago whose name was "Tom the Cock". One night as he and Tom Malone were minding a grave over in Saunders-Court they saw five men coming towards them. One of the men fired a shot at them and as soon as he did it "Tom the Cock" levelled his rifle and shot one of them and the rest fled for their lives.
    "Tom the Cock" took the cap off the fellow he had shot and wore it. Next morning as he was walking along the quay he saw four strangers coming along the quay. When they saw the cap they ran for their lives. He followed them and caught them and brought them to the guards.
