He lived during the time of St. Patrick and was successful in establishing the religion of our Blessed Redeemer. He first founded a church and then a college - the only vestiges now remaining of the ancient glory of these buildings are the ruins of the small church on the little island known as Begerin out on the North slob.
This is known as the "Island-home" of the Saint where he lived to an advanced age, founded a college and was interred there. It appears from the best authorities that the distinguished Saint was a native of Ulster and was on a mission with St. Declan and when returning to Ireland met St. Patrick.
St. Ibar died on the island in the year 500.
