He should immediately have spit on the gold for 'luck', but instead he rushed home with the crock and when he arrived there, he found it was far lighter than it was at first.
On looking in he found that instead of gold he had only dust.
The man regretted until the day of his death that he did not spit on the gold when he first discovered it.
