  1. Bread is still made from oat-meal and wheaten meal in the locality. There was no flour made locally. Querns were used in the district a long time ago. Some of the different kinds of bread that were made were potatoe-cake, boxty-bread and oaten and wheaten-meal bread. In making potatoe-cake, potatoes, flour, salt and soda are used as the ingredients. Milk is added to a wheaten or oaten-meal cake while kneading. Bread was baked every day in olden times. The sign of the cross is put on cakes before baked. It is done to allow the cake to rise. The vessel in which bread is baked is called a baker. Pan cakes are made particularly on "Pancake Night"
