    and a servant, came to the door. Patrick said, “good morrow, I want to see the king.” After a good while, the king came out dressed in a shirt and trousers. The king asked him if it was work he was looking for, and Pat said it was. “Well,” said the king, “if it’s work you’re looking for, work you shall (you) get”. He gave Pat his dinner.
    Then he sent him to catch a racehorse. Pat got up on the horse’s back, coming home, but the horse used to throw him off every minute. At last, Pat reached the king’s palace. He put the horse in the stable, and he went to get some oats to give him. When he came back, there was no trace of the horse. His two ears were all that were to be found.
    He went through the fields, hills, and valleys, in search of him. At last he saw the horse coming up out of a quarry, and had human ears on him. The horse could never be found, because the fairy that appeared to Pat long ago at the cow-stable door, had a power over the horse. The king got very poor, and one day, he sent Patrick for the lone of his grand-
