  1. Old Houses 6-6-1938
The houses which existed in the district in olden times were mostly thatched mud walled cabins.some of the poorer houses houses had roofs thatched with rushes. The smaller cabins had nearly always a bed in the kitchen. The bed was placed near the fire. The fireplace was always at the gable wall.sometimes the front of the chimney was made of clay and wattles.Sometimes the fire was at the gable having a hole in the roof to let out the smoke and no chimney.
Sometimes in the old houses the windows were so small that a kind of wooden shutters was used instead of glass. To let in the light the wooden shutters were opened in the daytime and in the night they were usually closed.
Half doors were common formerly in the district.
Turf and wood was commonly used as fuel.
Rush lights were used to give light in olden times.
