1. The Local Roads

   The names of the local roads are, the Ardee road, the Dromiskin road, and the Darver old road.
   The Ardee road runs from Ardee to Dundalk; the Dromiskin road runs from Dromiskin, to Waterstown Cross, and the Darver old road runs from Waterstown to Darver.
   No one around knows when the roads were made.
   There is only one old road in the district as I have already mentioned.
   It is still used because Mr. Kerr's forge is on it.
   Some of the bye roads were made as relief work during the famine period.
   The people who worked at road making had only tenpence a week to a shilling.
   There are old paths, and bye ways in the school district.
   Before bridges were made rivers were crossed at shallow places. I did not hear any names for fords. There are no stories or traditions about fords that I have heard or.
   In the Summer evenings nowadays it is a custom for all the young people to gather at the cross roads, and have a gamble.
